Applied microbiology has developed using the knowledge gained by microbiologists who study microorganisms. Although food and medical applications make up a large part of applied microbiology, the study of microbes has spawned an entire commercial industry that affects almost every aspect of human life. The practical applications of microbiology are numerous, including some areas of food production and medical applications.
