Applied Science

Applied science is the use of knowledge obtained from scientific methods and conclusions from those methods to achieve practical goals. It covers a wide range of fields such as engineering and medicine. Applied science is often contrasted with basic science, which focuses on developing scientific theories and laws that explain and predict natural events. Applied science, such as epidemiology, can also apply formal sciences such as statistics and probability theory. Genetic epidemiology is an applied science that uses both biological and statistical methods.
